Mobile Speed Cameras in County Mayo

Here is a map showing the possible locations of speed cameras in County Mayo.
The roads that will be monitored by the GoSafe camera vans are marked in red.
It looks like Kiltimagh will be seeing speed camera vans in the future - as well as roads around Ballina, Westport and Castlebar.

NCT Delays could mean a free test

Trying to book an NCT test in Castlerea is almost impossible at the moment. The online NCT booking system has no dates available in the next 6 weeks. If you ring the NCT you are told there are no appointments available in Castlerea - but they offer to put you on a list and to write to you when a date is available.
There is a line in the NCT customer charter that says if you don’t get an appointment within 4 weeks - you don’t have to pay. The problem is - that you don’t get confirmation that you tried to book an appointment - so you will find it hard to proove that the appointment (when it comes) - is more than 4 weeks after you originally tried to book. It might be a good idea to keep records of any phone calls (dates and times and ask the name of the operator) - also email NCT when after your first booking attempt to confirm that you tried to book.
Another badly run organisation in Ireland - where the needs of the general public seem to come last.
Applus is the company chosen to run the NCT testing service - they are in it to make profit of course - but surely the government should have a service level agreement with them which needs to be enforced.

Gatwick to Knock Flights resume 2009

Aer Lingus is starting up flights from Knock (Ireland West) Airport to Gatwick (London). The flights begin on April 6th 2009 - but bookings can be made online now.
The flights will be daily
Aer Lingus last used Knock Airport nearly ten years ago.

The decision by Aer Lingus to commence Gatwick flights will give Ireland West Airport Knock (IWAK) a much-needed boost after the budget airline XL Airways pulled out of the Gatwick route after going bust last September.
It is expected that the route will provide an increase of around 35,000 tourists to the region and is expected to inject almost €12 million in spend into the western regional economy.

Pay and Display Parking in Ballyhaunis

The elected members of Mayo County Council have agreed in principle to proceed with the introduction of a pay and display parking system for Ballyhaunis. When this is due to happen is unclear - but don’t hold your breath. In the meantime the streets will remain clogged with traffic because of the cars parked on double yellow lines and even double parked sometimes. Friday evenings in Ballyhaunis can be chaos most of the time. Will pay and display sort this out - I doubt it because there will still be ignorant stupid drivers who think they can break the rules and to hell with the rest of us. A few tickets issued by the Gardai might help - but they are rarely seen in Ballyhaunis.
