Special Olympics Annagh Parish

The parish of Annagh now has its own Special Olympics Club, thanks to a €1,300 donation from the Abbey Pattern committee. The money has been used to fund a weekly club meeting that is held from 8.30 - 9.30pm every Tuesday in Tooreen Hall. “The Club is a focus for both leisure and social activities, and to begin with the first ten members are doing activities such as pool, table soccer and bocce - a game similer to indoor bowls,” said Carmel Brady, centre manager of the Western Care Ballyhaunis Training Centre and one of the organisers of the new club. “We are confident that community interest will grow and eventually we hope to organise social evenings and events with other Special Olympics clubs. Presenting a cheque on behalf of the Abbey Pattern committee, Suzi Ottewell said, “Again we have to thank everyone who supports the annual Pattern, which was a huge success in 2008. The Committee aims to provide a fun day for the local community and it is a huge bonus that we are able to help another local organisation in this way.” New volunteers are always welcome at the Special Olympics club.
